Staying home, staying independent
For many Australians, the idea of leaving the family home is heartbreaking, especially when it’s the place where memories live, routines bring comfort and the neighbourhood feels like an extension of family. This was exactly the situation for our clients, a couple who became the story behind our recent install at Mods on the Move.
What began as a difficult chapter quickly turned into one of possibility, independence and smart design. We’re proud to share their journey!
When life changes, living often has to change too
After decades in their much-loved home, our clients found themselves struggling with the realities that come with changing health. Their charming but large house had become too hard to navigate and maintain. Stairs, space, constant upkeep, it all added up.
But the thought of moving away felt even harder.
Their community, their friends, their familiar streets… Everything they loved was right where they were! The idea of selling their home just didn’t feel right. They needed another option, one that kept them close to what mattered most.
Thinking outside the block
Like many properties across regional and suburban Australia, our clients had something incredibly valuable without even realising it: space.
Their generous block was the key to staying home and it opened up a solution they hadn’t previously considered, installing a purpose-built modular home on their existing property.
This would allow them to:
Stay on the land they loved
Maintain access to their belongings, garden and sheds
Downsize without leaving their community
Move into a space designed specifically for their evolving health needs
Enjoy the comfort of modern, accessible living, without a renovation or rebuild
It was the perfect balance: the freedom of downsizing, with none of the heartbreak of leaving.
A modular home designed for accessibility and freedom
We worked closely with them to create a functional, future-proof modular home, complete with accessible layouts, single-level living and thoughtful design details that make day-to-day life easier.
For couples facing similar challenges, modular living offers a modern alternative to traditional granny flats, retirement villages or high-cost renovations. Its flexible, fast and designed to support ageing in place, something more and more Australians are now prioritising.
Install day: The moment everything becomes real
To accompany this story, we captured a behind-the-scenes look at installation day, a moment that always feels a little bit magical.
The video shows the team loading the completed Mod onto a flat-bed truck using a crane, securing it carefully for transport and moving it through town before positioning it onto the prepared site. It’s a fascinating process that highlights the true benefit of modular construction: speed, efficiency and precision.
Within hours, the home was delivered, placed and ready for its new owners.
Watching their new home arrive wasn’t just exciting, it was emotional. It meant relief, safety and a new chapter that still honoured everything they’d built over their lifetime.
Why this install mattered
This project meant a lot to our team. It wasn’t just about delivering a building; it was about delivering peace-of-mind, independence, and a way forward for two people who deserved to stay connected to the life they love.
Their story is one we’ll be proud to share for years to come and one that continues to inspire how we design, build and deliver modular homes across Australia.
